Fairtrade Fortnight 2012

It’s Fairtrade Fortnight!  This event runs from the 27th February to the 11th March, and the theme this year (every year has its own theme) is “Take a Step for Fairtrade”.

Full details can, of course, be found on the Fairtrade Foundation’s website, here.

Many retailers in Crowborough stock Fairtrade goods all year round, and hopefully you’ll already be buying them!  If you’re new to Fairtrade, the Fairtrade Foundation’s website gives all the details but, in a nutshell (a fairly-traded-nut shell, of course), Fairtrade ensures vulnerable producers aren’t exploited while producing the goods we regularly buy, such as tea, coffee, and chocolate (and many more).

So when you buy the Fairtrade goods, you’ll be purchasing the same type of products you normally buy, but with the assurance that the producers were paid a fair price for their work.

Crowborough Retailers participating in the “Take a Step for Fairtrade” event will show this poster in the window.

If you have children at school in Crowborough, you may already be preparing to go out and collect stickers!  Lots of retailers displaying the posters have stickers to hand out, and the child collecting the largest number will win a Fairtrade prize.

Whatever your usual shopping habits, try to “Take a Step” into a Crowborough shop, cafe, or business during Fairtrade Fortnight, and look for Fairtrade goods.

If you have children that would like to take part in the Crowborough 2012 Fairtrade Treasure Hunt, the instructions and sticker sheet can all be found in this downloadable document: FairtradeTreasureHunt2012.  You’ll need the Adobe Acrobat viewer to open it.
